New Guidelines for Grandstands

The presentation will be in two parts. In the first, the scope and rationale of the recently published report "Dynamic performance requirements for permanent grandstands subject to crowd action: - Recommendations for management design and assessment" is presented together with an account of the research, development and validation of the human structure interaction model used in the analysis of performance.

The second part deals with the use of the Recommendations and the human structure interaction model in assessment and checking structural design. Useful simplifications are outlined and the implications of human structure interaction and the relative significance of the different parameters affecting performance are discussed.
