SECED Young Members
The SECED Young Members are an informal grouping of students, researchers and professionals under the age of 35 within SECED. If you are a member of SECED and you satisfy the general criteria for being a Young Member, you will be included in the Young Members' mailing list (you can unsubscribe from the mailing list any time you want; just contact us to let us know). The Young Members are not an exclusive club by any means – all SECED members of all ages and walks of life are welcome to participate in the events that are organised under the "Young Members" umbrella. You can also ask to be included in the Young Members mailing list even if you do not fit the formal criteria for being a Young Member.
Join SECED as a Young Member
If you wish to join SECED as a Young Member, the process is pretty easy and summarised in the following steps:
- Apply for a SECED membership (don't forget - membership is free for all students).
- Email the YMSC including your age, preferred email contact and your SECED registered number.
Benefits of the SECED Young Members
Young SECED Members enjoy all the usual benefits offered by the SECED membership. In addition to those you will:
- Receive the YMSC Newsletter by email.
- Be able to vote in the YMSC Elections.
- Liaise with individuals close to your age, who share the passion of earthquake engineering and related fields.
The Young Members Sub-Committee (YMSC)
Young Members are represented within the SECED by the Young Members’ Sub-Committee (YMSC). Formed in July 2017, the YMSC aims to provide a platform to showcase the talent of young members to the wider community, promote collaboration among students and young professionals, enhance knowledge in the fields of earthquake engineering and civil engineering dynamics, and share ideas and concerns with the Society. The YMSC is intended as a diverse group that brings together talented individuals from both academia and industry. The remit of YMSC encompasses activities such as organising career development/networking events; co-ordinating outreach/educational programmes; arranging periodic meetings, conferences, paper/poster competitions and special presentations; collaborating with other professional societies; interacting with the main SECED Committee to enhance the overall presence and standing of the Society; and organising other activities in pursuance of the objectives of the Society.
The Annual Meeting of the YMSC is held in October. Committee members are elected for a two year term.
All future events organised by the YMSC are now online, so that guests can attend from home. Announcements are made from the official SECED website as well as social media platforms.
Stay home, stay safe, stay tuned!
